Join the Barking & Dagenham School Improvement Partnership for our 2026 Headteachers’ Conference exploring Transition - one of the most significant journeys pupils experience throughout their education.
From the earliest stages of development through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood, pupils navigate multiple transitions that shape learning, identity and future success. This two-day conference brings together leading researchers, practitioners and leaders to explore how schools can better understand and support these critical moments.
Featuring expert insights from Professor Zachary Walker, Dr Liory Fern‑Pollack, Dr Rebecca Gordon and Dr Gisele Dias, the programme examines development across Early Years, Childhood and the Teenage years, connecting research with practical leadership strategies.
Delegates will collaborate on action planning for transition learning, hear perspectives on corporate leadership from Sandra Schembri, and conclude with an inspiring reflection from children’s author Christian Foley, whose work explores pupils’ experiences of moving from primary to secondary school.
This conference offers headteachers the opportunity to:
Engage with cutting-edge research on child development and learning
Reflect on how transitions influence pupil outcomes
Collaborate with peers to develop practical transition strategies
Strengthen leadership approaches that support pupils through every stage of their school journey
A valuable opportunity for reflection, collaboration and forward thinking with colleagues.
